adc2can
adc2can

The adc2can adds up to eight extra sensors to your can2gauge. Oil pressure, fuel pressure, oil temperature, boost, wideband AFR, EGT: anything with a 0-5V output plugs into one of its eight sensor sockets, and the readings show up on the interface as named, scaled channels ready to display.

It joins the same 12V / CAN daisy chain as the gauges: one cable in, one cable out to the next device, so there's no extra wiring back to the ECU. No CAN wire where you want to mount it? The adc2can also sends every reading over WiFi, so a can2gauge with nothing but power still shows the sensors.

Need more than eight? Add a second board for sixteen.

Each sensor socket has its own switched, current-limited 5V supply, so a shorted or damaged sender only takes out its own channel. The board watches every supply: a short is flagged and retried (or latched off, your choice), and if 12V ever finds its way onto a sensor's 5V pin, every supply is switched off until it's cleared. The 12V input has the same reverse polarity, resettable fuse and surge protection as can2gauge.

Readings are taken by two 16-bit converters, around 180 times a second per channel, and corrected against each sensor's own measured supply, so a sagging 5V doesn't move the reading. Each channel can be set up as a straight-line sensor (with presets for common 0.5-4.5V pressure senders, 3 bar MAP, wideband AFR / lambda and EGT amplifiers), a table of up to eight points for odd senders, or an NTC temperature sender. Smoothing, decimal places, low / high warnings and a fine gain trim are all set per channel.

There's also 12MB of built-in log memory. Record every sensor at up to 50 times a second, started by hand or automatically at power-up, then download each log as a CSV straight to your phone.

Everything is set up from the WiFi interface, which provides a live dashboard with a gauge or number for each sensor, ten-minute trend graphs with min / avg / max, sensor setup, supply monitoring, CAN settings and settings backup / restore.

The sensor names, units and scaling set on the adc2can appear on the can2gauge automatically, and can be changed from the gauge's own menu too.

Firmware updates are over-the-air, either straight from GitHub or from a file.

Note: The adc2can is designed for can2gauge, but its CAN format is documented on the GitHub, so any dash, logger or ECU that can read a custom CAN stream can use it too. The WiFi link is one-way: the gauge shows the sensors over WiFi, but changing the adc2can's settings from the gauge needs the CAN wire (its own web interface works either way). The sensor supplies come from the car's 12V, so on USB power alone the sensor sockets stay off.

Note: NTC temperature senders need the channel's pull-up resistor fitted (2.2k for a Bosch sender). Sensors with their own supply, such as a wideband controller or EGT amplifier, only need the signal and ground pins.

Features:

8 sensor inputs (0-5V), 16 with a second board

Readings appear on can2gauge as named, scaled channels with no gauge setup

Connects over the can2gauge 12V / CAN daisy chain, or over WiFi with power only

Switched, current-limited 5V supply for each sensor, with short-circuit and 12V back-feed protection

16-bit readings at around 180 per second per channel, corrected for supply voltage

Linear, table and NTC sensor modes, with presets for common pressure, MAP, wideband and EGT sensors

Per-channel names, units, warnings, smoothing and decimal places

12MB on-board data logging at up to 50Hz, with CSV export

Live dashboard and ten-minute trend graphs on your phone

Battery voltage and sensor supply monitoring

Switchable CAN termination and adjustable CAN speed / IDs

Fused, reverse polarity and surge protected 12V automotive supply

Over-the-air firmware updates from GitHub

WiFi configuration and settings backup / restore

Fully opensource

You can check out the adc2can GitHub repository here: https://github.com/Forbes-Automotive/adc2can
