That means it isn't tied to one ECU. It was developed alongside the Ignitron ECU, but it bridges whatever is on the end of the USB-A port: MaxxECU*, serial\/FTDI cables, flashing tools and other vendor USB devices. Your normal drivers and software do the talking, and the usb2ip simply carries it over the air.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eNeed a cable after all? Plug a laptop into the USB-C port and the \u003cstrong\u003eusb2ip\u003c\/strong\u003e hands the ECU straight over to it, stepping the WiFi bridge out of the way. Unplug it and the bridge comes back.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eFor Ignitron users there's more: the built-in web dashboard shows live gauges straight from the ECU on your phone, with no extra software. All 384 channels are named and scaled exactly as Ignitron's own log viewer shows them. You can also log data to the board or your browser, and read and clear fault codes, all over WiFi.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003ePower comes from the car through a fused, protected automotive supply. After 5 minutes with nothing connected, the \u003cstrong\u003eusb2ip\u003c\/strong\u003e powers itself and the USB port down, so nothing is left switched on when the car is parked.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eEverything is set up from the WiFi web interface: network name and password, USB routing, auto power-off and more. Firmware updates are over-the-air, either straight from GitHub or from a file, so once it's installed you'll never need to take it back out.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eNote: The laptop needs a USB\/IP client installed. On Windows this is the free usbip-win2, which requires test-signing mode to be enabled (full instructions on the GitHub). The live gauges, logging and fault-code features are currently Ignitron-specific; other devices are bridged but don't get dashboard support. One USB device at a time, and isochronous devices (audio\/video, such as webcams) aren't supported.
