What is Haldex?
The Haldex system is the AWD clutch pack used in most VW Group 4Motion and Quattro vehicles. In its stock form, it's reactive — it waits for the front wheels to lose traction before engaging the rear axle. This works well for everyday driving, but it's not ideal for performance use. On track, in a drag scenario, or simply when you want more predictable AWD behaviour, stock Haldex can feel slow to respond.
What Does the OpenHaldex Controller Do?
The OpenHaldex C6 Controller sits inline with your factory Haldex system and intercepts the CAN Bus signals between your ECU and the Haldex pump. Instead of waiting for slip, you can tell the system exactly how you want it to behave — instantly, on the fly.
Available Modes
- Stock — OEM behaviour, no changes
- FWD — disengages the rear axle entirely (perfect for tyre warming at a drag event)
- 75/25 — biased towards the front with rear engagement
- 50/50 — maximum rear drive engagement at all times
- Tune Your Own — build a fully custom map based on speed and throttle position
Modes are switchable via the onboard button, the hazard or traction control buttons, or through the WiFi interface from your phone — no app required, just a browser.
Which Cars Does It Fit?
The OpenHaldex C6 Controller supports Gen1, Gen2, Gen4 and Gen5 Haldex systems — covering vehicles from 1998 right through to 2021. This includes:
- Volkswagen Golf MK4 R32 through to MK7.5 Golf R
- Audi TT (8N, 8J, 8S), S3/RS3 (8L, 8P, 8V), Q2, Q3
- Skoda Octavia, Superb, Kodiaq, Karoq
- Seat Leon Cupra, Ateca, and Cupra models

A Forbes Automotive-equipped Audi A3 running a 1.8 EA888 with 629bhp and 514ft'lbs recently became the fastest MQB 1.8 EA888 in the world, completing the quarter mile in 9.93 seconds at 138mph.
