The Build
This Audi A3 is powered by a heavily modified 1.8 EA888 producing 629bhp and 514ft’lbs of torque. At those power levels, getting the drive down efficiently is everything — and that's where the OpenHaldex C6 Controller comes in.
Running the OpenHaldex C6 Controller with the plug-and-play wiring harness, the AWD system is fully configurable for the drag strip. The ability to run a custom Haldex map — controlling rear drive engagement over speed and throttle — means the car can launch with maximum traction and transition smoothly to its power band without the hesitation of a stock reactive Haldex system.
The Numbers
- Engine: 1.8 EA888 (MQB)
- Power: 629bhp / 514ft’lbs
- Quarter mile: 9.93 seconds @ 138mph
- Record: Fastest MQB 1.8 EA888 in the world
- Haldex controller: OpenHaldex C6 with plug-and-play harness
Why Haldex Control Matters at This Level
At 629bhp through an AWD system, stock Haldex behaviour simply isn’t good enough. The OEM system is reactive — it waits for front wheel slip before engaging the rear axle. On a drag strip, that means wasted time and inconsistent launches.
The OpenHaldex C6 Controller allows the driver to pre-set exactly how much rear drive engagement they want, when they want it — dialling in the perfect launch map for the conditions and the power level. It’s the difference between a reactive system and a proactive one.
